On Thursday, February 8, 2024 Stafford’s Executive Director of Real Estate and Terminal South Developer Melissa Ahrendt was joined by City of Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens to officially break ground on the project, which is slated to open later this year. Other groundbreakers included Terminal South JV partner Melissa Risenberg, Atlanta City Councilman Jason Winston, 72-year Peoplestown resident Ms. Clemmie Jenkins, and Jay Johnson of Dream Builders Atlanta (also a lifelong Peoplestown resident).
More than 50 guests gathered in the loading dock of Building One to mark the occasion – a space that will be unrecognizable in less than a year from now. Attendees included local real estate developers, City of Atlanta officials, future tenants of Terminal South, representatives from MARTA and the Atlanta BeltLine, and members of the Peoplestown community. Also in attendance – the people that have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this project possible including Tim Nichols and Michael Colanero of NO Architecture, Gracie Stewart and Kate Triplett of Kimley-Horne, and David Mead and team from Gunter Mead Construction (to name a few).
Post-groundbreaking, guests mingled and enjoyed coffee and pastries by Peoplestown Coffee (owner Andy Bibliowicz is opening two concepts at Terminal South), and southern fried chicken biscuits by future tenant Southern Grace.
Local TV stations including Atlanta News First (CBS), 11 Alive (NBC) and WSB-TV (ABC) were onsite to cover the event – that coverage can be viewed here.
